Summary
Pierre Clastres: Chronicle of the Guayaki Indians
The author lived for a year in the immediate vicinity of the Guayaki Indians, who are also called Cruel Rats. They call themselves Ache, Persons. Silent and invisible, these nomads roam the tropical forests of eastern Paraguay, which allowed them to resist the fate of their permanent neighbors for a long time: slavery, death and extermination. Events, humorous and tragic anecdotes gradually outline a portrait of Guayaquis, lecherous when the opportunity arises, serious when necessary. This chronicle does not ignore a single problem that this population represents for ethnology.
