Biljana Jovanović (1953 – 1996) was a Serbian writer and one of the most prominent intellectuals and peace activists in Serbia and Yugoslavia at the end of the 20th century.
She was born in Belgrade, where she graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy. She began her literary career at the end of the 1970s, and attracted attention with novels and short stories characterized by a strong, ironic and engaging style, as well as a critical attitude towards society and official ideology. Among her more famous works are the novels Pada Avala, Duša, jedina moja and Psi i otra.
The book Bible and Kierkegaard's point of view, which now appears for the first time, on the thirtieth anniversary of Biljana's death, is her only philosophical book. It is a manuscript of a diploma thesis defended at the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade in 1987. The manuscript was kept by our poet Radmila Lazić, who takes care of its legacy. And it was prepared for printing by the philosopher Ilija Marić.
