Summary
Roland Barthes: Fragments of a Love Speech
The beautiful young man Solemn was left by the nymph Argira with whom he was in love, Greek mythology tells us. Aphrodite freed him from his love woes by turning him into a river. But he also suffered for Argira like a river. Therefore, the goddess gave him the power to forget, and from then on, everyone who bathed in that river was freed from the torments of love.
Is there any river today where unhappily in love could bathe? Fragments of a love speech are a melancholic ode to today's Solemn in search of a river that has dried up. The most famous work of Roland Barthes, which paints a portrait of a lover and describes all the drama of love.
