Summary

Lev Kreft: Levi horog

Philosophy of sport in nine essays

Aesthetic appeal and aesthetic potential of sport.

According to the canon in discourses about sport, three possible approaches can usually be expected from books dealing with this topic. Primarily, in discourses typical of sociological approaches to this phenomenon, readers are presented with historical and social facts related to a particular sport. In many specialized works, intended for specific problems in the field of sports, one can come across detailed and, for readers who are not sports fans, sometimes insufficiently comprehensible explanations of certain issues. Finally, in contemporary cultural studies, sport began to be analyzed as one of the equal cultural fields. However, the mentioned approaches to sports are not the only ones, as evidenced by the title that appeared in 2013 under the Belgrade publishing house Orion Art. Not by chance, this publishing house, normally dedicated to the history and theory of art, has published a book that belongs to a specific genre in discourses about sports - the philosophy and aesthetics of sports. The collection of texts on sports by the Slovenian philosopher Lev Kreft, professor of aesthetics at the Faculty of Philosophy in Ljubljana, therefore proves to be adequate and complementary to the usual editions of the mentioned publishing house.
