Summary
Theodor Adorno: Minima moralia
Reflections from a damaged life
The sad science, of which I am teaching my friend something, refers to an area that has had a reputation as an authentic area of philosophy since time immemorial, and after its transformation into a method, it was left to intellectual neglect, sententious discretion and finally to oblivion: the study of the right life. What used to be called life for the philosopher became the sphere of the private and then only the sphere of consumption, which is refined as an addition to the material process of production, without autonomy and without its own substance. Whoever wants to find out the truth about immediate life must examine its estranged form, the objective forces, which determine individual existence down to the most hidden corner.
