Summary
G.W.F. Hegel: Lectures on Plato (1825 - 1826)
French historian of philosophy, meritorious researcher of the philosophy of German idealism Jan-Louis Vieillard-Baron published the book translated here originally under the title Hegel, Leçons sur Platon. Texte inédit 1825-1826. Edition, traduction et notes par Jean-Louis Vieillard-Baron at the publisher Aubier éditeur, Paris 1976.
The German edition of the book was published under the title Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel, Vorlesungen über Platon (1825-1826). Unveröffentlichter Text. Herausgegeben, eingeleitet und mit Anmerkungen versenchen von Jean-Louis Vieillard-Baron at the publisher Ullstein GmbH, Frankfurt a.M.-Berlin-Wien 1979. For that edition, the author's preface, introduction and notes were translated into German by Hans-Joachim Metzger, who also compared Hegel's text with the original van Griesheim's manuscript and corrected it in some places and listed all the significant variants of Michelet's text.
The translation into Croatian was made on the basis of of that German edition. Variants of Michelet's text were not taken into the apparatus, and the notes of the German translator were transferred only in a few cases, when they seemed historically and philosophically significant enough. Vieillard-Baron's citations of Plato's text were compared with the Greek original and corrected in the not-so-rare cases where they were misprinted in the German original.
