Nikolay Berdyaev: The Meaning of History
Nikolay Berdyaev (1874 – 1948) was a Russian Orthodox philosopher who belonged to the school of Christian
existentialism. His philosophy, which is based mainly on readings of Russian Orthodoxy and
existential thinkers such as Dostoyevsky, seeks to defend the thesis of human uniqueness and freedom
and preserve the idea of man and humanity from industrial alienation and modern nihilism. This book
presents an overview of the history of ideas primarily in the West, the history of the ideas of freedom and the free man and
attempts to offer insights and solutions to the new problems facing modern man.
