Summary
Gianni Vattimo: The Subject and the Mask
Nietzsche and the Problem of Liberation
The guiding thread of this reading of Nietzsche is the concept of the mask. This term does not appear in Nietzsche's work as often as others, but it can be pointed to by many other terms, such as appearance, illusion, truth that has become a fairy tale, which are generally used to define and discuss the problem of man's relationship with the world of symbols. Choosing the mask as a guiding thread does not mean recognizing Nietzsche's philosophy exclusively as the philosophy of the mask; with greater right it can be defined - we will see in what sense - as the philosophy of the superman. The mask is a guiding thread because, from the early works, the elaboration of this problem develops the assumptions on which the essentially positive attitudes of Nietzsche's philosophy will be built.
