Summary
Bruno Latour: Politics of nature - How to introduce science into democracy
The book Politics of nature is a kind of continuation of Latour's earlier work We have never been modern and the author's first major work on the topic of political ecology. In the book, Latour deconstructs modern contradictions such as nature and society, values and facts in order to show that contemporary ecology and political practice cannot solve current ecological crises precisely because their thinking that remains within these contradictions makes it impossible to design effective action. In order to solve this problem, Latour proposes designing new political institutions that would introduce scientific expertise into the public discussion, but keeping in mind the limitations and nature of scientific practice. Politics of Nature is Latour's fundamental political work that has left the greatest mark on contemporary debates about solving environmental problems.
