The Code of Canon Law of Pope Paul VI. and Pope John Paul II. contains a theological-legal synthesis of the teachings of the Second Vatican Council. Its characteristics, in addition to fidelity to the Council and its decisions, are adaptation to the new circumstances in which the Church lives, fidelity to the Church's legislative tradition, the legal nature of legal expressions and pastoral orientation.
The purpose of the Code is to be a means of promoting the unity of the Church at its various levels and in its many members. As the Church is by its very nature missionary, so its Code has this dimension and emphasizes the ecumenical desire to draw closer to the brothers who believe in Christ.
The Code is addressed to all members of God's people and translated into national languages so that all believers, clerics and laymen, could more easily find their rightful place in the church system, more precisely exercise their rights and duties, more fully realize legal opportunities and, in accordance with legal regulations, more fruitfully cooperate and participate in building Churches.
It is enriched with "Sources" to make it easier to see the motivation and meaning of the canons themselves, and in the "Appendix" with the "Good Shepherd" constitution. The "Actual index" and "Comparative list of canons" are also included for easier use of the current Code and navigating it and comparing it with the previous Code.
Text in Croatian and Latin.
