Summary
Verena Kast: Dynamics of Symbols
Fundamentals of Jung's Psychotherapy
"Dynamics of Symbols" deals with precisely presented interpretations of the basics and techniques of Jung's psychotherapy, accompanied by various examples from the author's therapeutic practice that explain Jung's theoretical concepts in a clear and concrete way, so that the reader participates directly in the process of creation and creation of images and symbols that are understood as "focal points of psychological development" and as an expression of some hidden or unconscious reality, which can be experienced and interpreted.
In accordance with Jung's image of man characterized by the Self as the guiding principle of life and the process of individuation - which for the individual means the path to autonomy and the ability to establish relationships - Verena Kast follows the basic thought of analytical psychology, which she connects with therapeutic practice.
The book presents examples from the author's practice that Kast had the opportunity to meet following Jung's scientific impulses. Therefore, it is not surprising that the dynamic symbolic process, to which all processes of analytical relations can be reduced, is always the starting point of her work for the author. In this context, Kast describes the I-complex and developmental psychology, simultaneously elaborating new notions about the coherence of the I.
At the same time, the possibility of a conscious constellation of symbols and archetypes, the meaning cores of the complex, is emphasized, as well as the healing function of archetypes, with an emphasis on the relationship of transference-countertransference in a process and the creation of symbols.
Jung's theory on the active force of the interaction of psyche and body forms the starting point for a new approach to psychosomatic symptoms that are considered symbols
Verena Kast was born in 1943 in Zurich. She completed her studies in psychology, philosophy and comparative literature.
