Summary

Dušan J. Popović: Cincari

The Croatian edition of the book about the Cincari by the Serbian historian Dušan Popović, first published in 1927, deals with the history of this ethnic group, which has largely disappeared today, in the period from the 17th to the 20th century. The Cincars are descendants of the Romans from the time of the Roman Empire, and they inhabited the area from today's Greece to Croatia, however, during the 19th century, at the time of the creation of nations, they did not succeed in building themselves up as a people because there were too few of them, they did not inhabit a compact territory, they did not create a standard language and they did not share a common past and culture.
