Summary
Slobodan Vuković: Serbian Society and Economy
1918 - 1992
Dr. Slobodan Vuković's book "Serbian Society and Economy (1918–1992)" provides a comparative analysis of political, economic and social events in Yugoslav and Serbian society in two periods, 1918–1941. and 1945–1956. year, with a brief overview of these events, especially the economic ones, in the period 1957–1990. In the book, for the first time, it is shown that the economic policy, which was led by the political elites in both Yugoslavia, was to the detriment of the economic and social interests of Serbia, rather than - as claimed in numerous uncritical or propaganda articles and books - favoring them in any aspect. Then, the author shows in an exhaustive and competent manner how, from unification to the end of Yugoslavia, the process of rounding off the national (republic) economies took place in the context of political conflicts and other social events. It is paradoxical that Serbia's systematic economic backwardness was always accompanied by accusations that Serbia was exploiting the rest of Yugoslavia. Such a distorted (self) perception meant that every economic crisis necessarily turns into a political-state crisis, so the crisis of the 1980s, after the change in the foreign policy context, eventually ended with the collapse of Yugoslavia. This book will enable our scientific public to become more familiar with the factual material that sheds a completely different light on the "Yugoslav episode" in the history of Serbian society than the one that most of us are familiar with. Practically, this book about "Serbian society and economy..." is a direct continuation of the author's book Ethics of Western Media and together with it forms a unique whole, primarily in terms of exposing and demystifying numerous manipulations directed against Serbs and Serbia.
