Summary
Yamasaki Kayoko: An Anthology of Japanese Essay
Today, Japanese literature seems to be present and well received in Serbia. Novels and prose works by important writers including Soseki, Akutagawa, Kawabata and Mishima have been translated. The works of contemporaries such as Murakami Haruki and Ikezawa Natsuki can be read in Serbian. There are also numerous translations of not only haiku but also contemporary poetry. However, Japanese essay writing, which has a rich tradition since the beginning of the 11th century, is not sufficiently known to Serbian readers. This book is the first attempt to fill that gap. We hope that this anthology will show readers not only a specific poetic spirit, characteristic of Japanese literature, but also that it will provide a new view of the world. Some readers will perhaps find a certain kinship, something in common that unites Serbian and Japanese poetics. Everything in the world is connected, as this anthology will surely prove.
