Summary
Slavomir and Zaneta Sambunjak: The Elysian Fields of Zoranić's Planina
The authors analyze "Mountains" by Petr Zoranić, the first Renaissance bucolic novel of Croatian literature written in 1536 in Nin, and published only in 1569 in Venice, with the intention of explaining in this unique travelogue the enigmatic oxymoronic words from the Dedication, where Zoranić claims that "Mountains" and the road described in them are "Elysian fields under cover", i.e. allegory. For the authors, the connection with the ancient literary tradition is only the starting point, after which they begin their research with the questions of where the Elysian Fields are in the "Mountains" and where the Elysian Fields are in the West near the Ocean, and Zoranić's motives will also be examined intertextually. They believe that Zoranić double-coded his messages about places and at least two historical figures that connect Nin and a number of Mediterranean locations (Marseille, Arles, Narbonne, Rennes le Château) and that he thematized the myth of the Holy Grail.
