Saraswati Vishnudevananda

Summary

Vishnudevananda Saraswati: Hata yoga pradipika

Hatha Yoga Pradipika (Sanskrit for Hatha Yoga Enlightenment) is a classic handbook on Hatha Yoga written in the fifteenth century by Svatmarama, a saint in the lineage of the legendary Indian yogi Macjendranath, who is reputed to be a great reformer of Hatha Yoga.

It is one of the most influential extant texts on this form of yoga and belongs to the three major classical hatha texts. yoga together with Geranda Samhita and Shiva Samhita.

Different manuscripts offer different titles for this text (Hatpradi, Hat-pradipika) compiled by Svatmarama as a compilation of traditional hatha yoga texts. He also included earlier Sanskrit treatises on yoga in his collection. He presents his system as a preparatory stage for physical purification before the devotee devotes himself to higher meditation or raja yoga.

"The goal of yogic practices is to raise the level of your life, to put the vehicle of your spiritual development into first gear. Then you can move into second gear, maybe even third, and then, after the initial climbs, you can safely cruise the hills.

This is not typical of most worldly people who just fall down the cliffs. not knowing how to stop, thinking that happiness is waiting for them somewhere down the hill, faster and faster into many misfortunes such as cancer, high blood pressure, heart disease. Although it is the line of least resistance, please do not fall. The path is illuminated, it is paved by the ancient text that used by yogis to gain power all the way to the top. The path was paved by the great beings: Macjendranath, of whom there are fourteen treatises (scriptures) on Hatha Yoga. It is the central path that we can all expand upon."
