Summary
Mary Schoeser: The World of Textiles
Mary Schoeser has written an exceptional anthropological and ethnographic study of textiles. The development and use of fabrics tell a lot about the history of the human race. The author believes that fabrics can be seen as indicators of cultural mechanisms that tell not only about the development of technology, trade and agriculture, but also about changes in rituals, language, art and mentality. The data is presented chronologically, from prehistory to the present day, and explains how and what fabrics were made of and what role they played in certain cultures.
The book is primarily intended for students and professors of textile and technology faculties and fashion designers, but it will certainly be interesting to all those interested in the history of civilizations and cultures.
