Bruno ili o božanskom i prirodnom principu stvari

Schelling Friedrich Wilhelm

Summary

Friedrich Wilhelm Joseph Schelling: Bruno or on the divine and natural principle of things

Bruno Schelling published the dialogue in 1802, one year after the publication of the Presentation of my system of philosophy, which marked the beginning of a new section in his philosophical development, the period of the so-called identity system (1801-1808). With it, Schelling tried to abolish the dichotomy between the philosophy of nature and transcendental philosophy and their principles: the productivity of nature on the one hand and the spontaneity of the self on the other, as Schelling developed them in his writings from the previous period, and to unite them in a higher principle, which is defined as the absolute mind. The first Croatian translation of Schelling's Bruno flawlessly conveys the philosophical meaning of the work, and was made according to the authoritative original F. W. J. Schelling, Bruno oder über das Göttliche und natürliche Prinzip der Dinge, hrsg. von M. Durner, Felix Meiner, Hamburg, 2010 and compared with the critical edition of that work in the series by F. W. J. Schelling, Historisch kritische Ausgabe, Reihe I: Band I,11,1-2: Schriften 1802, hrsg. im Auftrag der Schelling-Kommission der Bayerischen Akademie der Wissenschaften von M. Durner und I. Radrizzani, Frommann-Holzboog, Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt, 2016. The translation is preceded by a preface by the translator, which includes notes on the origin, content and earliest reception of Schelling's dialogue, and at the end of the book there is a translation of expert notes by the German editor Manfred Durner.
