The author, full professor of philosophy of language at the Faculty of Philosophy in Rome, talks in the book about the life and thought stages of H. G. Gadamer, from the years of education in his birthplace to the era of Nazism and the war in Leipzig, from the birth of hermeneutics in Heidelberg to its affirmation in the USA and in the world. The importance of not only Gadamer's main work "Truth and Method", but also previous and later writings and the importance played by Greek philosophy for hermeneutics is highlighted. The bibliography at the end of the book contains a list of works in the original edition, Italian translations, interviews, collections dedicated to Gadamer and critical studies.
