Harry G. Frankfurt: On Prosecution
At the very beginning of the book, Frankfurt answers the question that naturally arises: Why write an essay on branding? "One of the most striking features of our culture is that it abounds in bullying. Everyone knows it. We all contribute. But we take this situation for granted. (...) Therefore, we do not have a clear idea of what bullying is, why there is so much of it and what its function is. We lack a consciously developed understanding of the importance of bullying. In other words, we have no theory." The task of the philosopher of ordinary language - Frankfurt's book was written in this tradition - is succinctly expressed by Wittgenstein's definition of philosophy as a struggle against linguistic errors. One of the many n Another misconception is related to verbal bullshit, that is, whining and pointing fingers. The prevalence of this phenomenon makes it excessively close, creates the impression that we know exactly what it is about and leads us to accept the wrong criteria when deciding whether the interlocutor (or a public person who addresses us through the media) is simply scum.
