A deft, lively style, a sharp gift of observation and a broad perspective of thought, made this work a great success during the author's lifetime. while it is certain that what we are contributes much more to our happiness than what we have. That is why we see some of these people, constantly busy, working like ants, from morning to night occupied only with how to increase the already existing wealth. They see nothing but a narrow field of means to accomplish it; their spirit is empty and therefore unreceptive to everything else. The highest pleasures, spiritual, are inaccessible to him; he persistently tries to replace the others with those other transitory, sensual ones, which cost little time, but a lot of money.

At the end of his life, as a result of the same, if luck was in his favor, he really has quite a pile of money in front of him, and now he leaves its multiplication or, rather, its dissipation to his heirs. Therefore, such a life path, regardless of that, was carried out with seriousness and dignity, just as unreasonable as the one whose symbol could have been the court madman's cap.
