Summary
Theodor W. Adorno: The Dream Journal
Adorno was fascinated by his dreams and wrote them down throughout his life.
This book covers the last twenty-five years of his life. Readers of Adorno's works, accustomed to deep reflections on philosophy, music and culture, might find them disturbing: they provide an incredibly honest and unvarnished account of his inner desires, feelings of guilt and anxiety. They are presented very directly and give a consistent picture of those dimensions and experiences that are usually overlooked, which deepen our knowledge of Adorno. He wanted to show how social injustice, fear and political repression creep into our deepest intimacy. For him, dreams were a continuation of the daily horror of capitalist society.
