Summary
Baltazar Gracian: Connoisseur
Foresight is serious, and seriousness deserves respect. Of the two ends, the noble nature is the best. He who always makes a joke is not taken seriously, and many always do this: he calls it the advantage of shrewdness, he is prone to it, because there is no monstrosity without a godfather. Nothing sadder than constant joking. There comes a time when it is appropriate to joke, on other occasions one should be serious. The very name witty warns how to joke. It takes time to differentiate everything, especially people. To joke with another means to consider him lower, or at most equal, because in this way he is deprived of respect and worship.
