Summary
Dieter Baacke: Media pedagogy
One of the most influential theorists of media pedagogy, Dieter Baacke, definitely departs from the traditional approach to media literacy as a way of "defense" against the negative influence of the media on the individual. Media cannot be viewed separately from social dynamics, culture and communication, but rather represent a constitutive factor of modern society. The problem of the media is a key problem of the development of a culture of mutual communication. Therefore, media pedagogy cannot be limited only to the upbringing and education of an individual, but is invited to participate in the entire social discourse, including the area of media policy, but also in thinking about a desirable and ethically acceptable social order. The information age needs new forms of literacy, which would introduce other symbolic systems (besides language, speech and writing) into the cognitive, experiential and usable horizon of modern man.
