Magazine "Krugovi" no. 5/1954. is an extremely important volume from the third year of publication of this monthly because it brings one of the key moments for the reception of world literature in Croatia - the premier publication of the cult poem "Pusta zemlja" by T. S. Eliot in the anthological translation by Antun Šoljan and Ivan Slamnig. Printed under the auspices of the publishing house Mladost under the editorship of writer Josip Barković and editor-in-chief Vlatko Pavletić, this May volume also contains an extensive accompanying theoretical study by the translator on Eliot's modernism. This contribution strongly influenced the poetics of the entire generation of "rounders" and opened the door to new currents in domestic poetry.
