Summary
Svetozar Poštić: The Revival of Russian Culture (1917-1922)
The Bolsheviks took power in Russia on November 7, 1917, after a series of decisive actions and the capture of the Winter Palace in Petrograd. A bloody civil war followed, which claimed ten million lives, drove two million people into emigration, and caused enormous hunger and poverty in the country. The confrontation between the communists and the bourgeoisie destroyed the economy and culture beyond recognition. In the book The Revolution of Russian Culture Svetozar Poštić deals with the February Revolution, the October Revolution and the civil war, especially the White Movement, which suffered its final defeat in 1922. The author gives us new insights into the downfall of Russian culture in a certain historical period - through descriptions of the participants and witnesses of this tragedy and their life destinies. The last part of the book shows the war against the Church and believers, which aimed to eradicate traditional religiosity and establish faith in the Revolution, dialectical materialism and the realization of heaven on earth.
