Pierre Montet: Egypt in the Age of Ramses
Library Everyday Life.
Translated from French by Željko Klaić.
About the book:
The culture of ancient Egypt, one of the most fascinating known cultures, received in this ADVANCED series, thanks to the author and lucky circumstances, probably the most beautiful and interesting work of the whole series.
From the three-millennium history of Egypt, the author chose the period of the pharaohs Setia and Ramses (I, II and III), which begins around 1320 BC. e., and lasts approximately two hundred years, and ends with a great restoration of the country, the erection of buildings, monuments, temples and settlements that were destroyed by the invasion of the Hyksos. The author chose this period because, after crises, unrest and turmoil, it was a rather peaceful period, and there are numerous testimonies about it. Temples, tombs and pillars were richly decorated by artists with series of paintings, which illustrate scenes from everyday life like comics, and at the same time, real stories and songs in praise of gods, pharaohs and love are written in hieroglyphs among the painted scenes...
