Summary
Grgur of Turski: History of the Franks
Grgur of Turski (538-594), bishop of Tours, is the author of the History in Ten Books (Decem libri historiarum), better known as the History of the Franks, one of the most important sources for the study of the history of the early Middle Ages, that is, the Merovingian period. A future witness of the political turmoil in the Frankish lands at the end of the 6th century, Gregory writes about the conflicts between the rulers and the suffering of the people in those stormy and difficult times, but he pays great attention to church history and dogma and writes in detail about the conflicts between orthodox Christians and Arians. In ten books of his History, Gregory the Turk describes the events from the creation of the world to the year 591. The work is written in Latin, that is, in a language that represents a unique mixture of classical Latin and vulgar Latin.
