Summary
Fyodor Uspenski: History of the Byzantine Empire I - III
According to Grigori Ostrogorski, Uspenski, together with Vasiljevski, "with his extraordinary scientific activity significantly encouraged the study of Byzantine history. It can be said that there is almost no significant problem in the field of Byzantine history, which Uspenski did not deal with, and there are many fundamental problems that he was the first to notice. It was not only the most prolific, but also the most versatile Russian Byzantologist. In contrast to Vasiljevski, he gave a great synthesis of Byzantine history: it is his monumental "History of the Byzantine Empire" the most detailed modern history of the Byzantine Empire.
