Summary
Jakov Lukarević: Copioso ristretto degli annali di Ragusa di Giacomo di Pietro Luccari Gentiluomo Raguseo libri quattro. Dedicari all'Eccelso Senato di Ragusa
Second edition.
List of Dubrovnik noble families and list of Dubrovnik archbishops at the end. The author's only work, a chronicle of Dubrovnik from its founding to 1600, a continuation and supplement of the history of Dubrovnik by Serafin Razzi (Lucca, 1595). The author, the first Dubrovnik writer on Dubrovnik history, used old chronicles, documents from the Dubrovnik archive, works of Byzantine Western and Eastern writers, and oral tradition. In the preface, he addresses his friend Marino Bobaljević (Marino de Bobali), who helped to print the book and to whom the book is dedicated, and criticizes historians who previously wrote about Dubrovnik, such as Sansovina. Due to the fact that the author cites information from the works of today's unknown writers, this chronicle is a significant contribution to the knowledge of Dubrovnik's history. The author describes Dubrovnik's legal provisions and customs, the political and administrative organization of the Republic of Dubrovnik, the topography of the Republic of Dubrovnik, and provides information about Croats in the Ottoman service. He comes from a distinguished and aristocratic family. He was a member of the Great Council and a representative of the Republic of Dubrovnik in Constantinople, with the Sultan. While he was in Constantinople, Africa and Bosnia, he researched the connections between Croats and Muslims. He wrote in Italian the book Copioso ristretto degli annali di Ravsa, libri qvatro - An extensive extract from the Dubrovnik chronicles in four books, first published in Venice in 1605. The second edition was published in Dubrovnik in 1790. His presentation of Dubrovnik's history abounds in information that we do not find in other historians and chroniclers, especially for older history. Lukarević often cites the sources of his data that are not known to us today. part of the data was drawn from the State Archives. Information about our people in the Turkish service is especially important. His analysis of the state organization of the Republic of Dubrovnik is also of great value.
