reprint
the book has a dedication
The most important work (1941) of the poet and prose writer from Zadar, who spent his childhood in Dubrovnik, this is a memoir-anecdotal work from the cultural, social, intellectual and political history of Dubrovnik in the 19th century. The work contains descriptions of the last years of the Republic of Dubrovnik, its fall and the arrival of the French, then the Austrians, as well as later social changes through numerous events, anecdotes, customs and the author's personal memories from childhood. Although the work is based on historical-political and biographical factography, its backbone is the sphere of cultural history; Dubrovnik's social environment and the distinctiveness of Dubrovnik's intellectual and spiritual life.
