Summary

Decio Cinti: The House of Savoy: from the beginnings of the dynasty to our days

"The House of Savoy: from the beginnings of the dynasty to our days" is the name of a rare, richly illustrated book from the time of the NDH in 1942 by the author Decio Cinti, which describes the history of the Savoy dynasty, from which the uncrowned Croatian king Tomislav II was supposed to be.

Savoy dynasty, Italian ruling dynasty. It got its name from a feudal estate known from the 12th century. century under the name Savoy, who in 1033 is the German king and German-Roman emperor Konrad II. Saliac presented to Humbert I the White-Handed (ca. 985–1048), the first known member of that dynasty. The family, which over the centuries acquired the title of count, duke and king, had great power and a significant political role in the territory of northern Italy from the XIV. Its rise began already during the XI-XII centuries. century, when the members of the dynasty united the whole of Savoy under their rule, and in the following centuries they annexed parts of Switzerland (Vaud, 1359), Nice (1388), Geneva and Vercelli (1416) and Turin with Piedmont (1418), which had been held as a county since 1232 by a secondary branch of the House of Savoy (Counts of Piedmont). The center of gravity of the Savoy rule soon moved to Piedmont. The territorial expansion of family holdings was accompanied by the growth of family reputation. Thus, the German-Roman Emperor Henry IV. awarded the title of imperial counts in 1101, and Sigismund of Luxemburg the title of imperial dukes in 1416. Victor Amadeo II. he became king of Sicily in 1713, and king of Sardinia in 1720. Victor Emmanuel II. as the king of Sardinia (from 1849), he became the king of the united Kingdom of Italy in 1861. In return for the help given to him by the French Emperor Napoleon III. on the occasion of the unification of Italy, in 1860 he had to cede the Counties of Nice and Savoy, the headquarters of his dynasty, to France. The Savoy dynasty ruled Italy until 1946, when, based on a referendum, Umberto II was deposed from the throne, and Italy was declared a republic. - Of the members of the secondary branches of the Savoy dynasty, the Austrian general Eugene of Savoy, the Spanish king Amadeo I (1871–73), the Italian general Amadeo Savoy of Aosta, the viceroy of Ethiopia (1937–42) and the uncrowned Croatian king Tomislav II are interesting. or Aimone of Savoy of Aosta (1941–43).
