Pavel Jozef Šafarik: On the origin of the Slavs according to Lorenc Surovjecki

According to the original idea, this work was intended to be published in a magazine. However, since this intention was not realized due to a combination of circumstances, and the manuscript gradually grew with constant additions and expansions - reaching a scope five or six times larger than the original - I decided to keep its original form and publish it separately, in the hope that I would not do a disservice to lovers of Slavic history. Despite the effort to stick to the golden mean and the truth in the broad field of research into the ancient past - marked by divided points of view on the prehistory of the Slavs - I am aware that two groups will inevitably be dissatisfied with my approach: some will consider the scope of Slavic antiquity that I have covered too narrow, while others will declare this expanded view to be the fruit of patriotic daydreaming. Nevertheless, I calmly await the judgment of those who are competent to evaluate this work, even if - with equal respect for the dignity of science and the importance of the task itself - their opinion on the way of processing the topic would differ from mine.
