"Aware of insufficiently researched sources that could better shed light on the life and older history of Serbs in the then (1904) Bjelovar-Križevac County, and certainly motivated by the desire to get to know the place of his service as well as possible, Grujić toured the area and visited Serbian churches, examining their archives and libraries. This enabled him to get to know the state of the manuscript funds in the territory of the former Varaždin Generalate and Slavonia, and it could be concluded that, realizing the significance of what he examined in the field, he came up with the idea to scientifically process the collected material and prepare it for publication."
