Summary
Radoš Ljušić: Serbian statehood in the 19th century
In this book, the ideas and processes of building the state, state institutions, took precedence, while society and its problems remained in the background and were emphasized only when it was necessary to better understand the emergence of states, their functions and roles in the history of Serbia.
We adhered to the following principle regarding the existence of the state: "A community is a state if persons belonging to that community live in a certain territory under an independent and effective government." This classic definition of a state includes three elements - land, population and government. What is the minimum of each of the mentioned elements needed to acquire the status of a state in science has not been determined. The first two elements were processed selectively, as much as was necessary to show the last element and the forms of its manifestation.
