Summary
Shefali Tsabary: Conscious parents: we change ourselves, we empower our children
Instead of just inheriting the psychological and spiritual traits of the parents, the children act as guides for the parent's development. Parents inadvertently transfer psychological pain and emotional superficiality to their children.
In order to deal with the resulting behavior, traditional parenting books offer a handful of smart techniques for control and quick solutions for dysfunctionality.
However, in the conscious approach to parenting advocated by the author, children serve as mirrors of parents' forgotten images of themselves. Those who are willing to look in the mirror have the opportunity to establish a relationship with their own inner state of wholeness. Once they find their way back to their core, parents team up with their children, move away from the traditional approach where parents "know everything" and thus develop a reciprocal relationship with their children. The pillars of parental ego begin to crumble when parents realize that their children can lead them into a state of presence.
