Summary
Irvin Yalom: Theory and practice of group psychotherapy
Capital work of Irvin Yalom, psychotherapist and psychiatrist, already well known to domestic readers. The book has a large format, it is considered the best reference in the field of group therapy. Jalom co-authored this book with Molyn Leszcz, which has made a major contribution to the research literature on contemporary group psychotherapy. This is the fifth edition of a book in which both authors have devotedly collaborated as therapists to integrate new and old materials into this work.
They had the task of incorporating numerous new changes in this field into the new edition and rejecting outdated ideas and methods. And they had numerous dilemmas:
* What if some changes are not progress but regression?
* What if market demands for faster, cheaper and more effective methods are against the interests of the client?
* And what if these various market factors force the therapist to provide clients with less than they otherwise could?
* Do we expect more from psychotherapy than it can provide?
* What must the therapist do and what should he do? be?
* Case studies - how to form and maintain a group? How to work with conflicted and problematic group members?
About online support groups The social forces established in a therapy group are very strong and require a trained therapist who will know how to direct them positively, preventing their negative effect. Jalom teaches us that.
