Summary

Dmitri Obolensky: Bogumili

Spekulativni i nespekulativni minds easily perceive the importance and urgency of this problem. The metaphysician and the theologian must explain the possibility of any relationship between the Infinite and the finite, between the perfection of the Creator and the imperfection of the creature, between God and the world. And those people, who as non-philosophers believe that God is the source of all perfection and goodness and that He created the world, cannot but admit that in this world moral and physical evil - suffering, cruelty, decay, death - are present in abundance.

How can God, the Supreme Good, be the cause of Evil? Is it possible to avoid the following apparently logical conclusion: in which case He is not the source of all perfection and therefore is not the true God, and the origin of Evil should be sought outside of God and opposed to Him? In many solutions to the problem of Evil that human reason has tried points of view, completely opposed to each other."
