Appendini Urban, pedagogue and Latin poet (Poirino, Italy, 18. III. 1777 – Zadar, 7. XII. 1834). Entered the ranks of the Piarists young, studied mathematics and philosophy at the Collegium Nazarenum in Rome, and astronomy in Florence. He came to Dubrovnik in 1795, taught philosophy and mathematics in the high school there for years. Wrote in Latin and Italian, mostly commemorative pieces dedicated to friends and acquaintances. In the collection Poems (Carmina, 1811) he published his elegies, epigrams, fables and hendecasyllables, and in the appendix a selection from the Latin works of twelve Dubrovnik poets Selected poems of famous Dubrovnikans (Selecta illustrium Ragusinorum poemata). Although spatially limited and conceptually uneven, it is the first anthology of Croatian Latinism.
