Summary
Milan Vukomanović: Historical Jesus, before Christ
Dense fogs and clouds of different interpretive legacies, accumulated over centuries and epochs, separate contemporary readers from authentic representations of the historical Jesus. In order to adequately approach the Galilean Teacher today, in the light of new knowledge, newly discovered documents, archaeological findings and modern scientific methods, it is necessary to divide these clouds into several layers. Any theological interests, interpretations, and filtering of the original textual material should be bracketed, or even dismissed altogether, and the focus should be on the texts and artifacts themselves within the religious, social, and political history of Jesus' time. In the book Historical Jesus, before Christ, author Milan Vukomanović, a professor at the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade, discusses the differences between Judaism and Christianity in the first century, as well as the social history of the Jesus movement. In his research process, he relies not only on the Gospels, but also on knowledge from the fields of archaeology, sociology, historical demography and other scientific disciplines. This book is an important contribution to the critical and rational understanding of the period of early Christianity.
