Summary
Lexicon of Evangelical Christianity
Edited by: Stanko Jambrek
The evangelical movement, created during spiritual awakenings in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, influenced in the twentieth century to some extent all Christian churches: Catholic, Orthodox, Protestant and Evangelical. Believers of the evangelical movement participate in different churches: Anglican, Reformed, Evangelical, Pentecostal, Baptist, Charismatic, Catholic, etc. They emphasize the authority of the Bible, God's sovereignty, the experience of conversion to God, the need to live a holy life, following Jesus Christ (discipleship), the obviousness of newly experienced or renewed personal faith, which is actively expressed in evangelization and serving the needy. Through the action of the Holy Spirit during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, numerous evangelical denominations and independent local churches were created in the heat of evangelization of the world, which at the beginning of the twenty-first century number several hundred million believers. The growth trend of worldwide evangelical Christianity has made it a relevant phenomenon and subject of scientific research. In Croatia, the name Evangelical Christian has two meanings: 1. the name for all Christians who base their faith and practice on the Gospel and belong to different churches (Baptist, Evangelical, Evangelical, Christ churches, independent local churches), 2. the name for believers of the Evangelical Pentecostal Church.
