Summary
Catherine Pickstock: A History of Sensory Surplus
The book History of Sensory Surplus by Catherine Pickstock, Professor of Philosophy of Religion and Ethics at the Faculty of Theology at Cambridge University, is the first book published by the author in a language other than English. Catherine Pickstock is one of the most important theologians and philosophers in the Anglo-Saxon world. Her work is linked to the theological and philosophical movement of radical orthodoxy, which had its beginnings at the end of the nineties at the University of Cambridge. In addition to Graham Ward and John Milbank, Catherine Pickstok will be one of the editors of the most controversial contemporary theological anthology Radical Orthodoxy - New Theology, which gathered nine other young authors dealing with theology, philosophy and political theory. At the end of the nineties, Catherine Pickstock became known outside the Anglo-Saxon theological scene when she published her most important book to date, entitled After Writing - about the liturgical completion of philosophy, in which she mercilessly dismantled and deconstructed Derrida, radically questioning the excess nihilism of postmodern discourse. The book contains four articles that chronologically represent the development of her thought so far. We can say that this book is a world premiere in a specific way.
The history of sensory excess also anticipates the development of her thought, since Catherine Pickstock is currently working on a book that will deal with the theological and philosophical problematization of materiality, corporeality, poetry, nominalism and signs. This is also the reason why, in agreement with the author, we named the book The History of Sensory Surplus.
