Summary
Martin Luther: The Fundamental Writings of the Reformation I
Both historians and theologians agree that the Reformation began in Wittenberg in the fall of 1517 with Luther's theses for the "Discourse on the Explanation of the Power of Forgiveness." In his Discourse, Luther turns against the abuse of papal supremacy (and power) of the keys through the sale of indulgences. His criticism was based on a new understanding of faith adopted from the Bible, and it set the Church in motion, but also all the viewpoints of the time.
