Summary
Radmila Tričković: Belgrade Pashaluk 1687-1739
Changes of the greatest importance for the history of the Serbian people took place in the area that, from the end of the 17th century, included the Ottoman border province called Belgrade Pashaluk. The Serbian uprising flared up there, a revolution from the ashes of which the Serbian state was later raised, and the fact in historiography, especially Serbian, that the area of the Belgrade Pashaluk was primarily studied as a phase of the events that led to the uprising and the creation of the state was crucial. The work of Radmila Tričković (1939–2011), which is published posthumously, represents her doctoral dissertation defended at the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade almost four decades ago, back in 1977. It is certainly the most frequently cited doctoral dissertation, which was used by all historians who dealt with this period. Written for the most part on the basis of unpublished and little-used material in the Turkish language, this edition makes it accessible to a wide readership.
