Davidović Radivoje

Summary

Radivoje Davidović: From Vajs to Vinaver: Streets of Belgrade Jews (2010-2024)

With his new book "From Vajs to Vinaver", Radivoje Davidović continues his research following the names of some of the famous Belgrade dignitaries of Jewish origin and sheds light on their contribution to the public and cultural life of Serbia. In the first book "From Davič to Čelebonović", which had a great response among readers, seventeen personalities are represented, while in the second there are 36 biographies of those who left an indelible mark and long ago deserved to have the streets of the Serbian capital named after them. And it is quite obvious that there was no area of politics, culture and economy where public servants of Jewish origin did not leave their mark. Contemporary Serbian culture cannot be imagined without names: Stanislav Vinaver, Rahela Ferrari, Oskar Davič, Geta Kon, Isidor Papa, Marko Čelebonović, Danilo Kiš, Enrik Josif, Hugo Klajn...

It is a great success of Radivoj Davidović to show the recent history of the city through the names of Belgrade streets that were created by prominent figures of the Jewish community who, through their actions, deeply woven themselves into Serbian culture. This is evidenced by Radivoje Davidović's book, richly illustrated with 170 high-quality photographs, which contains street plans and characters who gave their lives for freedom in the world wars.
