Andrić Nikola
Summary
Nikola Andrić and colleagues: Lexicon of the entertainment library 1913-1941.
The "fun library" of Dr. Nikola Andrić is still an unsurpassed publishing project in the history of Croatian publishing and the history of Croatian literary translation literature, which has only recently become the subject of scientific research and the necessary valorization. The edition was published in Zagreb from 1913 - 1941 and in that period published about 300 international and domestic authors in more than 440 volumes. Introductory notes were mostly written by Andrić himself, but often also by the authors themselves or, on the other hand, by distinguished translators, then writers and historians of Croatian literature. Finally united, this impressive and precious documentary material becomes all the more important due to the fact that it mostly contains reviews of those authors who have not been included in any Croatian literary lexicon until today. And there are not a few of them. Writers, who are persistently bypassed by our lexicology, have been translated into our country many times and by that very fact belong to Croatian cultural and literary history. Many of them can still be found today in new world (and Croatian) editions. A similar fate was experienced by some local, unjustly forgotten writers. At the same time, Andrić's publishing venture from the first half of the last century has not been surpassed in our country to this day, although Crnković's HIT in the second half of the same century came somewhat close to it. But, according to his own admission, Andrić's Library was his model.
