Summary
Igor Marojević: Liberation of reading: the anthropology of the Serbian short story
The anthology of the Serbian short story contains the works of about twenty authors, mostly those born after 1960. The editor Igor Marojević classifies them into several poetic groups, but as the main dividing line between them he emphasizes the relationship, following or calculating, towards the most influential Serbian novelist of the previous generation, Danilo Kiš. In that prose, a sequence of general European trends is visible, but also a reflection of the specificity of the Serbian socio-cultural environment. Many included authors refer to transitional situations, strong ideologies in the 1990s, chaos caused by the Serbian war campaign across its western borders... At the end of the anthology, short biographies of the authors, as well as the compiler Igor Marojević, were published.
