The author of the book Rieka prema Hrvatska, Franjo Rački was born in Fužine on November 25, 1828. He died in Zagreb on February 13, 1894. Apart from leaving behind a huge work, which is still studied today because it is current and interesting, he was the first among our historians to try to think objectively and critically about the past. He opposed Hungarian encroachments and dealt exhaustively with Croatian-Hungarian relations, especially in relation to Rijeka.
