Yriarte, Charles, journalist, publicist, (puto) writer (Paris, 1832– Paris, 1898). Author of the travel and cultural-anthropological work Les bords de l'Adriatique et le Monténégro: Venise, l'Istrie, le Quarnero, la Dalmatie, le Monténégro et la rive Italienne (Paris 1878). The book is full of engravings and very high-quality and detailed descriptions of Istria, Dalmatia, Boka and Montenegro. Valja Yriarte is also credited with enthralling Jules Verne (who had never been to Pazin and Istria) and inspired by the description of Pazinska jama and the castle to write his adventure fantasy novel Mathias Sandorf (1885).
