Summary
Henri Bergson: An Overview of the Immediate Data of Consciousness
The first two chapters of the title study "On the Intensity of Mental States" and "States of Consciousness as a Multitude. The Idea of Duration" are focused on cognitive theoretical issues, and question the notions of intensity and duration, so that in the third chapter "On the organization of states of consciousness. Freedom" the author devotes himself to the central theme of the book - the question of freedom, which is dealt with by metaphysics and psychology. The author tries to show that the source of all disputes between determinists and their opponents is the identification of duration and spatiality, consecutiveness and simultaneity, quality and quantity, and shows that the correct setting of cognitive-theoretical issues is a prerequisite for the correct determination of the concept of freedom and its content. The third chapter of Bergson's work "Matter and Memory", as well as Henri Gouhier's "Introduction to Bergson" is attached as an addition to the "Overview".
